If you are currently on a hunt for new curtains, why not kill two birds with one stone and buy noise cancelling curtains? Most of them also feature thermal insulation, which is another great bonus.
To be completely honest, I haven’t heard about noise reducing curtains until about a year ago, when I was searching the internet for new curtains for my living room, only to find out that some of these come with thermal insulation and noise-reducing layers. You’d be surprised, but the combination of thermal insulation and a quality tower fan can effectively replace the need for air conditioners. So I’ve decided to put together a comprehensive guide on the best noise cancelling curtains that are currently available on the market.
The noise cancelling effect comes from the thickness and type of the material and also number of layers included in the fabric. Most of them come in various sizes, colors and design, so there is plenty to choose from. So without further due let’s check the very best ones.

What To Look For Before Purchase
Before you make your decision, there are several factors to be considered.
Material
Curtains with sound insulation design are usually made of either polyester, a polyester blend or in some cases, silk satin. Each material has its own pros and cons. For example, polyester has better washing machine conditions than silk satin, but it’s not so soft to touch. You can also find some nice compromises with polyester blends.
Layers
With these types of curtains, you will find either 2-layer models, or 3-layer models. However, 3-layer design does not necessarily mean better blackout effect and sound insulation. There are also other factors like thickness of each layer, materials, etc.
Users usually do not care if it’s a 3-layer system or 2-layer one, as long as it meets other criteria, like blackout effect, sound and thermal insulation, and so on.
Blackout Effect
What you should want from your noise-canceling curtains is 100% blackout effect. This is usually achieved by sew-in black liner backing, which makes the curtains thick enough to block 100% of sunlight and UV ray.
Most curtains on our list meet these conditions, although there are models with 80-90% blackout effect. If you do not mind just a small bit of sunlight coming through, then these might be better for you.
Noise Reduction
All the models mentioned in my guide also come with noise reduction. This is achieved by the combination of heavyweight of the curtains, dimensions and thickness (layers). According to users, 2 and 3 layered curtains can absorb twice as much noise as single-layered ones.
Design and Colors
Most manufacturers offer a variety of design and colors of their curtains. However, I must say that most of these curtains are single-colored and you can rarely find some more colored patterns. Exception for this is the brand H.VERSAILTEX which makes beautiful, multi-colored, geometric designs.
Thermal Insulation
Good news is that thanks to the size, layers, materials and thickness of these curtains, they also act as natural thermal insulators, which means they balance room temperature, insulating against summer heat and winter chill.
Washing Machine Conditions
Because of the materials used, noise reducing curtains have specific conditions how to be washed in a washing machine. Make sure to double-check this information, otherwise you might ruin your new curtains.
Comparison Table

Which Ones Are Worth their Price?
Now that you know what to look for when getting noise cancelling curtains, let’s check out the list itself. The listed curtains are (in my humble opinion) the best combinations of features, design, quality and price.
1) NICETOWN Full Shading Curtains for Windows
These particularly good looking curtains made by NICETOWN made it to our list of the best noise cancelling curtains as well.
Unlike some of the competition on this list, these are made of 100% polyester and according to the manufacturer, they provide 100% blackout. The outside side is sewn in black liner, which provides the curtains with the ability to block the sunlight and UV ray entirely. Thanks to the heavy-weight blackout lined curtain panels, the noise reduction is quite significant. Actually, the manufacturer claims that the sound-insulation is 2-times higher than with standard curtains. The 2 layers are all triple-weave blackout fabric, which also aids in blocking summer heat and winter chill.
The manufacturer ships 2 panels per package. These particular noise-reducing curtains come in 9 different lengths and 14 different colors. The unique design with 1.6-inch inner diameter silver grommet makes the installation quite easy. Eco-friendly design, no formaldehyde and no coating. They are also easily washable in the washing machine with temperature below 86°F with mild detergent, no bleaching and low-temperature ironing.
Pros and Cons
- Available in 9 lengths and 14 colors
- 100% blackout effect

They are also formaldehyde vinyl free and block about 90% sunlight, while blocking 100% UV ray. The panels are made of 3 layers, the fabric layer with premium blackout effect, the high-density black silk layer and lastly, inside-fabric of solid color. These energy saving panels come in several fashionable designs and are also quite stylish.
Currently they come in 6 different color designs and 4 different lengths. All this adds great effects for thermal insulation, noise reduction, privacy feeling and energy saving, while maintaining silky natural material. They are easily cleanable either manually or via washing machine. Manufacturer states that you should use only non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry low and warm iron as needed.

Flamingo P brand is no stranger in the home improvement industry. They make everything from bathroom mats to rugs to sofa covers to noise-cancelling curtains.
Another set of curtains which pride themselves with 100% blackout and UV ray effect. Similarly, to the ones made by NICETOWN, these are also made of 2 layers, but instead of using polyester, Flamingo P used silk for the front side, while the backside is maintaining thick natural-woven blackout fabric. Combination of layers on these elegant curtains provides sufficient sound and thermal insulation.
The set of panels come in 6 different sizes and 8 colors. They are Eco-friendly, without chemical coating and lined construction. 8 grommets on each panel will fit up to 1 1/4-inches curtain rods. Perfectly washable in a washing machine with non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry low and warm iron.

4) RYB HOME 3-in-1 Noise Reduction Window Curtains
The Curtains made by RYB Home caught my attention mainly because of the 100% blackout effect.
Similarly to other noise-reducing curtains on this list, these are also made of 3 layers, where the middle one, felt fabric liner is detachable. The combination of these layers have great dampening noise effect while providing 100 % sun block and also 100% UV ray block. The thermal insulation is perfect for the unwanted winter chill or summer heat. Thanks to the 3-layers that provide 100% blackout effect, the panels are also a bit thicker than most on our list.
They come in 7 different designs and 8 different sizes. Washable in the washing machine, but first you need to detach the middle layer – felt fabric liner. As with most curtains on this list, you should use non-chlorine bleach and warm iron when needed and tumble dry low.
Pros and Cons
- 100% Blackout effect and 100% UV ray block
- Pure white color also available
- 8 different sizes available
- Noticeable noise-reduction
- Detachable mid layer
- A bit more expensive than the rest on the list
Our rating: 4.6 / 5
5) BGment Thermal Insulated Blackout Curtains
Our list of the best noise-reducing curtains continues with very affordable ones made by BGment.
The package includes one set of 2 blackout curtains and 2 tiebacks. These curtains are made of innovative triple-weaved microfiber blackout fabric. According to the manufacturer, the BGment curtains can block between 85% to 99% sunlight, while the exact percentage depends on particular color option. Naturally, they completely block the UV ray. As the name suggest, thermal insulation is one of the features, protecting your home against summer heat and winter chill. Thanks to the triple-weaved layers, the curtains are thick enough to reduce the amount of noise from outside.
Each panel comes with 6 silver metal grommets on top. Each grommet’s inner diameter measures 1.6 inch, which is a standard size for most common curtain rods. They come in 10 different sizes and 30 different colors, so there is plenty to choose from. You can wash these in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and cold water, without bleach. Warm iron should be done only on the back side and tumble drying at low temperatures.
Pros and Cons
- Currently 30 different color options to choose from
- They have the ‘wavy’ touch
- Excellent price
- Light color options block only around 85% sunlight
- Bleach shouldn’t be used
Our rating: 4.6 / 5
6) Deconovo Blackout Curtains
Curtains by Deconovo have caught my attention mainly because of the impeccable reviews and attractive design.
These panels are made of 100% high quality polyester fabric. Each package comes with two panels, each featuring 6 stainless steel grommets with the standard inner diameter of 1.6 inches that fits all standard curtain rods. Each curtain panel has a foil-printed geometric wave lines which are very soft to the touch. The triple-weave blackout material is divided among 3 layers, the front fabric layer, the high-density middle layer material and back fabric layer. Despite these layers, none of the colors available provides 100% blackout effect, but it’s certainly close to it. Unfortunately, Deconovo does not specify the exact blackout percentage for each color design.
The curtains come in an attractively-looking geometric design and they are available in 14 different sizes and 13 colors. Unlike other curtains on this list, these shouldn’t be washed in the washing machine, but rather hand-washed in the water below 86°F, shouldn’t be bleached or tumble dried.
Pros and Cons

- High quality 100% polyester material
- Triple-weave layer system
- Foil-printed geometric designs
- Not washable in the washing machine
- Bleach or tumble dryer should not be used
- Color designs provide various blackout effects, but never 100%
Our rating: 4.5 / 5
7) PONY DANCE White Draperies and Curtains
Last, but not least noise-cancelling curtains on our list are made by PONY DANCE. While these provide significantly less blackout and noise-reduction effects than other curtains on this list, I felt the need to include them as some of you might be looking for just this particular type.
These draperies are made of polyester and are designed for smaller windows and only to darken a room a little bit, as they provide only 60-75% blackout effect, depending on the color. They use triple-weave technology and have a heavy, yet soft touch. Unlike others on this list, they have the same color and materials on both sides. They are mainly designed to block streetlight and protect your floor and furniture from direct sunlight.
They come in 9 different sizes and 16 different colors.
Pros and Cons
- Great for smaller windows
- Plenty colors and lengths to choose from
- Very affordable
- Minimal sound and thermal insulation, compared to other curtains on the list
- Provide only 60-75% blackout effect
Our rating: 4.4 / 5
